TuttoYouTube provides a platform for news creators to share their content with the world. But it’s not without its challenges – from misinformation to the impact of social media on society. YouTube is working to address some of these issues. On Wednesday, it announced a new hub that will pull together news from “authoritative sources” and make it easy for viewers to learn more about a story or topic.
Essential YouTube Resources for Content Creators: Tools and Tips
The new hub will feature a new newspaper icon on videos and search results, which can be clicked to see a list of articles from reputable news organizations. YouTube is also establishing a program to provide funding and specialist support for news publishers that want to produce short-form video but don’t have the resources to do so. The program will initially distribute $1.6 million in funds to 20 channels around the world – including Univision in the US, AFP in France, and Mediacorp in Singapore.
Our survey and content analysis found that a majority of news consumers on YouTube say they think there are some problems with the way news is presented on YouTube, but few feel these are very big issues. Some of these include political bias, censorship by YouTube (also known as demonetization), misinformation, harassment and a lack of civility. More Republicans and Republican-leaning independents than Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say political bias, a lack of civility and harassment are very big problems, though majorities of both groups say these issues are moderately big problems.
